The day I met Matilda for the first time was a very special one because Matilda is a very special doll indeed. She is unique because she has been made with older girls of 8 to 12 in mind yet she is so well made and so beautiful that she could equally be an expensive doll for collectors.
Matilda your Tudor Girl is based on the character of a book, Matilda's Secret, which is all about how a young girl about to turn 13, becomes part of the court of King Henry VIII and all the adventures she has as a result. The costume Matilda comes in is her Court Dress made from thick grey velvet and which consists of a long sleeved jacket and a separate skirt with a plum coloured lining or kirtle. The sleeves are lined with luxurious white imitation fur and the top and skirt both fasten with little poppers. Matilda also wears a matching headdress trimmed with a row of tiny pearl beads and a pair of co-ordinating velvet shoes with gold trim. Her period underwear includes knee high stockings and a petticoat. Matilda also wears a necklace with a key which she keeps hidden, the significance of which can be discovered in the novel!
Matilda measures 16"/41cm in height and is an all vinyl doll with nine joints, including her knees and elbows. Her face has been carefully sculpted to represent the illustration of Matilda on the cover of her novel, Matilda's Secret. Matilda has sparkling grey inset acrylic eyes with real eye lashes, painted eye brows, pretty painted lips and rosy cheeks. Her long hair is very smooth and soft which will be excellent for styling using tips from the Keepsake and Secrets activity book also available. Matilda's hair is a wig which will help to keep her hair in the correct style and give it a more realistic appearance.
There are three costumes available for Matilda including the most beautiful taffeta ball gown, a velvet cloak and a cotton night shift. All are equally well designed and made as Matilda and are also great value. I am so looking forward to meeting the other doll characters in the A Girl for All Time® series!
Matilda can be cleaned using a damp sponge. Her hair can be washed carefully to avoid tangling and without soaking her wig. Her velvet garments can be cleaned using a damp sponge also. Her cotton undergarments can be hand washed and air dried.
I love the idea of making a history doll. I love the idea of making dolls for all different times in history, they don't have to be based on people in books, there might be an egyption doll, ancient greek, first and second world war, georgian with a lovely wide gown and an amazing puffy hair doo! I am hoping to get matilda for christmas and think that her little out fits are beautiful. Poseable joints make it all the better for waltzing in her beautiful taffeta gown! I hope the pretty little matilda is very popular aswell
I have recently been given Matilda as a present for the 11+ and I absolutely love her! I've always loved dolls (especially American Girl Dolls) and when my Mum showed me Matilda I fell in love with her! She is a lot slimmer that American girls which I like, and she doesn't have a goofy smile at all. One of the great things about Matilda is that she's also got a book, which AGD's also have, but this one is far more exciting and educational. I really love Matilda and her clothing. So far I only have the dress she came in, but the detail is lovely! All in all I think that Matilda, your Tudor Girl is a really great buy. (And this is from an 11 year old!)
I am an adult doll collector and have especially loved the American Girl historical dolls. A doll collector friend on one of my internet groups had heard about Matilda and since I am a US ex-pat currently living in London, I had to check it out. I was very pleasantly surprised by your quick delivery (something I haven't really experienced in the UK!). I love that Matilda is a bit more mature than the American Girl dolls. She has a very slim body and the all-vinyl aspect will make it easier to dress her in some lower-cut dresses. She is very sweet and makes a great addition to my modern vinyl doll collection!
Wow! What a gorgeous doll and such a brilliant idea basing her on an historical character. I've bought Matilda (along with her beautiful outfits and books) for my 8 year old for christmas - I can't wait to see her face light up when she opens this special gift. Also love that Cate and her team add the finishing touches, the pink tissue paper and ribbon tied boxes (and the personal messages in pink pen!) ensure that it's a real pleasure to shop with them - thank you very much.
I bought Matilds for my 11-year-old daughter and she loves her. She has several historical dolls from American Girl Doll and Matilda is a lovely addition to her collection, in fact had this series of dolls been around earlier we would have chosen them in favour of AGD. She has a lovely enigmatic expression which is perfect for creative play, and her poseable body means she can look very different in various positions. The outfit she arrives in is beautiful with lots of detail and proper underwear, and my daughter likes the popper fastenings as opposed to velcro which catches on things. She is really caught up in Matilda's story which is part of our history, and loved reading the book. She is looking forward to more historical doll launches. We'd recommend this doll to girls who love history over the age of 8.
I bought this doll as a Christmas present for my 6.5 year old, so she is not out of the box yet but looks just lovely. Extremely high quality and very real looking, perfect for an older child. I love the fact she comes with a 'history' and story. My daughter will just love that. The outfits look just great and the book is high quality too. Great packaging and service from Cate and co. I have bought this doll for my history-mad eight year old daughter. The doll is beautiful and I know she will make my daughter's Christmas. With the exquisite outfits and story book to bring it all to life, it is a perfect present.

Matilda arrived safely yesterday. Amazingly quick delivery (thank you Cate and team). She is beautiful and I can't wait to give her to my daughter for her birthday in Feb. I know she is going to love her. Am looking forward to seeing the next doll in this series. Might have to start saving up!!

I gave Matilda to my daughter for her 9th birthday. She is so much loved and cared for..... Thankyou for the prompt re-delivery when she accidentally returned home to the shop instead of landing on my doorstep! I appreciated the phone call and excellent service with a personal touch.
My grandfather bought Matilda for me last Christmas. I love her, especially her tudor outfit. Since having her, I have become more interested in history. My mom will be taking me to the Hampton Cout Palace during the Easter holidays so that I can see where Matilda attended all the parties. I can't wait for Amelia to be ready.
