Gotz began making dolls in 1950 from a kitchen in Germany. The founders, Franz and Marianne Goetz began selling them from the back of his motor bike and trailer to local shops - sometimes the trailer being heavier than the bike and driver! In the 1960's Gotz manufactured the first "Designer" doll to ever be mass-produced called Sasha - still much loved today and extremely collectable and obviously an enormous influence on me!
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Gotz brand began to make an impact throughout Europe and the rest of the world, and firmly established itself as a market leader. In the late 1980's Gotz added more collectors dolls to it's portfolio and many of these dolls are limited editions and have risen 10 fold in value. Gotz is still a family business, currently headed by Anke Goetz-Beyer, the second generation, and stands for the latest design, high quality and is based on a love for dolls. Gotz dolls until quite recently were made in Germany, but the dolls are now made in China.
