Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman began to fulfil her dream in 1923 after founding the Alexander Doll Company. Madame had always wanted to create beautifully handmade play dolls for children as she strongly believed that dolls should capture the imagination and contribute to a child's feeling of happiness and understanding of their world. At first Madame's business was based on her kitchen table but a few years later moved to a downtown New York Studio. More than 85 years on, Madame's company continues to uphold her dream by creating a wide range of award-winning dolls that are loved by both children and collectors alike.
The range of Madame Alexander dolls now available at Bambolina are called Favourite Friends. These dolls are 46cm/18" high, with beautifully soft hair and closing eyes. I love the way their bodies are made as the top section is vinyl, so that the doll looks lovely in a strappy dress or swimsuit, but the lower half is softly filled fabric so they are still lovely to cuddle and hold. They have their own range of trendy clothes too, and because the dolls are the same size as American Girl, the Favourite Friends clothes also fit American Girl. The Favourite Friends also make a very good, and cheaper alternative to importing an American Girl doll.
The dolls and clothes are due to arrive in early April and will be available to purchase online soon after.
